Praha aka Prague

So Prague. How do I describe this absolutely gorgeous city? With the cobblestone roads and windy roads you will get lost when you are adventuring around this unique place. But if you have the time enjoy your unplanned adventure while you try and find your way to the nearest landmark. As I sit here in a czech cafe listening to a language I have no ability to understand I’m just at a lost at the beauty of the people and the city that recently regained control over the communist regime.

On my tour of a nuclear bunker yesterday we learned that up until 2000 children were still sized for their gas mask size and taught how to throw hand grenades in primary school. So even twelve years after communism fell these people fought to find their control. They lived in fear that they would be thrust back into a life of gloom and tyranny.

But now in 2015 Prague thrives as a growing destination for those venturing throughout Central Europe. As we toured the castle in Praha and the St. Virus cathedral you see the old architecture and respect of tradition that the Czech people have for their country. As we sailed down the river in the center of town and passed the Charles Bridge you see scenes out of fairy tales. This city has its blemishes and stains similarly to the rest of Central Europe. With the Jewish massacres and the communist propaganda that raged throughout their history you can see the hurt that still lies beneath the surface. But you also see something that is still blooming as the younger generation steps forward. You see hope that this generation has learned from the mistakes from their elders and their determination to not repeat their mistakes.
I could easily recommend you staying longer than the few short days that I got to spend in Prague. I think it takes longer than a day to get a better sense of what the city longs to share with you. In this case, for me, the city of Prague or Praha wanted to tell me to look up and enjoy the ride. Enjoy getting lost in the red light district because you can’t read the map. Find a complete stranger and become friends. Be open to the people around you and learn from the mistakes of the generation before us. Be better.
